PaperWeight will feature artist's who are well-known for their innovative work

with paper with sculptors Bo Young Choi, Justin Lytle and Teresa Redden

and 2-D work by Jeffrey Bishop, Rachel Illingworth and Lynne Saad.

Jeffrey Bishop is a Brooklyn based artist who’s had long-time

ties to Seattle. Bishop showed with Linda Farris Gallery from 1978-1994

and then moved East. He earned an MFA from the University of Washington,

is a Seattle Art Museum Betty Bowen Award recipient and has work in

numerous corporate and private collections. His unusual technique

combines oil, ink and acrylic on paper.

Korean-born Bo Young Choi received her MFA in Fiber Arts from the

University of Washington in June 2009.  Young-Choi will have several

works in the show including ‘Let Us’ a sculpture woven from pages from

the Bible’s Old Testament and thread on a weaving loom.

Northwest artist Rachel Illingworth is well-known for her finely detailed monoprints.

Illingworth makes printing plates from heavy cardboard, a technique she

learned in college in her native Tasmania. Her monoprints average

15 passes through the press, creating layers of lush imagery. Illingworth

is creating new work for PaperWeight that combines architectural and

scientific imagery.

Justin Lytle graduated from Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle in

June 2009.  Lytle will show wall mounted and free standing sculpture

primarily made from re-purposed books.

Teresa Redden has made intricate sculptures in paper for many

years. The geometric shapes are created from hundreds of perfectly cut

paper rings seamlessly joined together. Redden has an MFA in sculpture

from Cranbrook Academy of Art and works and lives in the Pacific Northwest.

The late Lynne Saad stitched hand-painted playing cards together to tell

stories and her work was a visual diary. She took ordinary images

and grouped together they became extraordinary. Saad had a Master of Art

Education degree from the University of Washington and taught art

to generations of Pacific Northwest high school students.
