'BEFORE, DURING, AFTER'

JESSICA DRENK / PATRICK KELLEY

January 7 - February 20, 2009

Artist's Reception 1st Thursday, January 7, 6-8 pm

We're pleased to open 2010 with sculptor Jessica Drenk and photographer Patrick Kelley.

The artists will each show several distinct groups of work that segue among before,

during and after.

We're proud to be the first to show Jessica Drenk's wood sculpture in a new series

titled Procession.  Drenk's wall panels have a fine and pure architectural aesthetic.

She's meticulously cut the wood into asymmetrical patterns to reveal the material's

subtle and natural color variations. Also on view is Drenk's work from her series

titled Reading Our Remains, a collection of re-purposed books that have been altered

using water, wax, and basic hand tools to fold, twist, slice and carve the pages.

Drenk received the prestigious International Sculpture Center’s Outstanding Student

Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture award in 2006 and obtained an MFA degree

in Sculpture from the University of Arizona in 2007. Drenk is based in South Carlina

and this is her second exhibition at the gallery. To view Drenk's sculpture for the

Patrick Kelley Portfolio:

Patrick Kelley’s large panorama photographs portray earth, forest and sky melded in

original perspectives. Kelley employs photographic and 3-D technology to create work

that draws a parallel between mapping and memory. The large scale of the work lets the

viewer feel on location, as if one is right there. The exhibition includes art for the masses

with Kelley's amazing Flipbooks which tie-in thematically to the show. His Flipbooks

were also shown at an exhibition earlier this year at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France.

Kelley earned a MFA in Photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan in

1995 and is currently a Visiting Professor of Art at Skidmore College in New York.
