GREGORY GLYNN

HIGHER GROUND

May 15 - June 28, 2008

Opening Reception Thursday, May 15, 6-8 pm

Conversation with the Artist, Saturday, May 24, 1 pm

Gregory Glynn’s sculptures in wood are defined by his trademark of simply shaped, sensuously

honed surfaces. While the work has occasional references to the figurative, it reads primarily abstract. The show will feature wall-mounted and free-standing wood sculpture created from salvaged trees. The work is refined and resonates a quiet understated elegance while possessing a physicality. The work shines with Glynn’s genius in bringing the wood’s natural patterning into play.

Glynn writes, 'I’m interested in creating simple forms that explore a complex dichotomy

of strength and vulnerability existing in nature. Ultimately, my intention is to make artworks

that evoke a sense of connection between us and the world we live in”.

Raised in Massachusetts, Glynn moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington, where he earned a BFA in sculpture in 2000. The artist has shown in a number of outdoor sculpture exhibitions in the Pacific Northwest and will be in the Outdoor Sculpture Invitational at Maryhill Museum, Goldendale WA, which runs from May 10-Oct. 31, 2008.
